Gazette was founded March 10th, 2002 by Uruha, Reita ( both formerly of Karasu, Ma'die Kussë, L'ie:Chris, and Kar+te=zyAnose ), Ruki ( formerly of Mikoto, Ma'die Kussë, L'ie:Chris, and Kar+te=zyAnose ), Aoi ( former Mervilles and Artia guitarist ), and ex-drummer Yune ( formerly of La'DeathtopiA, Mervilles, Artia, and Vall'na racill ).

In April 2002 they released their first single "Wakaremichi" and two videotapes, which were released again two months later in a second press. In the following August/September they released two more singles and another VHS. At this time Matina was their record label. And finally, they gave their first oneman in the October 2002.At the beginning of 2003, Yune unfortunately decided to leave the band. Kai, the ex-drummer of Mareydi†Creia replaced/substituted him almost immediately and in March 2003 they joined the PS Company label.

In May they released their first mini-album, Cockayne Soup, as well as starting their first serious tour, together with Hanamuke. Apart from the tour collaboration, they also made two songs together. They managed the second tour together with Vidoll and the music magazine Cure published an edition with Vidoll and Gazette altogether on the cover picture.

At the start of December they played a Two-Man-Show beside deadman and on the 28th of December they performed on the Beauti-fool's Fest '03. The event was organized by the music magazine Fool's Mate and had the brilliant line-up of Kra, lab., Gullet, Pink Halleluja, Gazette, deadman, Miyavi, Déspairs Ray, Daigo Stardust, Merry and MUCC. On the 16th of January 2004 they made their first big One-Man-Show, which was recorded and afterwards released as the "Tokyo saihan ~JUDGMENT DAY~ 2004.1.16 SHIBUYA-AX LIVE DVD". The day of the DVD release (28.04.2004) was the foundation of the official Gazette fanclub as well. March 30th, 2004 they released the MADARA mini-album, which rosed to #2 on the Oricon Indie Charts! On the 25th of August they released the "Heisei Banka" concert DVD which was recorded on the 23th of April.

In May they also released their first PV-DVD "MADARA", which contained the 6 PVs including the "Making ofs....." of the "MADARA" mini-album. During September/October they set another tour together with fellow PS Company bands Kra and bis (bis left PS Company in 2005 and joined Free Will, the company that manages Dir en grey).

Finally, on the 13th of October 2004 they released their first and long awaited full-length album "Disorder" which climbed up on the top 5 of the Oricon Daily Charts! Latest Gazette gave us three nice lessons to listen to. The so called [reila] Lesson. G.O.D.! The G and O contain 2 songs each and an extra song. The last lesson contains 2 songs as well, but instead of the extra song, their "Making of...." of the reila PV.

In early August of 2005, Gazette released the "Gama" mini-album. The maxi-single "Cassis" was also released later in the year. Their second full album, "Nil", was released on February 8th, 2006, with a special first-press edition and a regular-press edition. Gazette's latest standing tour, 「Nameless Liberty.Six Guns…」, also started in February of 2006.
